I’m a Longmont-based freelance journalist, editor, and content strategist with a focus on travel, pets, conservation, and sustainability. I’ve written hundreds of articles that have garnered millions of views in top print and online publications. I am honored to have received the SATW Foundation’s Lowell Thomas Awards for excellence in travel journalism in 2022 and 2023.

Travel Writing and Editing

I passionately pursue and produce compelling stories about responsible and sustainable tourism, off-the-beaten-path adventures, women’s empowerment, communities, conservation, and equitable access to the outdoors. Knowing that my storytelling makes a positive difference drives me to produce quality content that’s both inspiring and impactful.

My writing has appeared in the New York Times, National Geographic, Architectural Digest, Travel + Leisure, Shondaland, Fodor’s Travel, Lonely Planet, USA Today, Fodor’s, Business Insider, and Outside Business Journal, among many others.

As a content creator and editor, I’ve produced organic branded content for Intrepid Travel, Natural Habitat Adventures, Virtuoso, Zegrahm, and safari tour operators.

Veterinary Industry and Pet Health/Lifestyle

As a weekly columnist for NBC’s Petside and a blogger for BarkPost, I brought attention to animal welfare issues in the 2000s. I continue to create well-researched health, wellness, lifestyle, and trending stories about pets and the veterinary industry for some of the country’s best publications, including Reader’s Digest, Great Pet Care, AAHA’s Trends, GoodRx, and Forbes. I have also created SEO-optimized, highly effective organic content for pet food brands, insurance companies, and rescues/shelters.

Sustainability and ESG Report Writing

In 2021, I began writing corporate ESG reports and completed training on the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards. I have written reports for Fortune 500 and 1000 companies in the following industries: Agri-tech, Automotive, Aviation, Energy, Specialty Retailer, Healthcare, Medtech, and Technology Services.

Career Highlights and Memorable Experiences

● Collaborated with TV host/naturalist Jeff Corwin on an eBook on shark conservation (a dream come true!).

● Participated as an Earthwatch Communications Fellow on their Safeguarding Whales and Dolphins research expedition in Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica.

● Snorkeled with sea lions in the Galápagos, released sea turtles in Costa Rica, cared for orphaned wallabies and kangaroos in Australia, swam with whale sharks in La Paz, Mexico, and trekked to see endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda.

● Met the last two northern white rhinos—Najin and Fatu—and the blind black rhino Baraka at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya.

● Chaired the DEAI Committee of SATW (Society of American Travel Writers) from 2023-2024.

● Reached hundreds of media professionals through webinars and speeches on topics related to DEAI, as well as networking and travel trends for SATW and Travel Unity.
